Fred, Fred, Fred,
There's an explanation for this monumental moment in the house
Jefferson built . . . or, at least, designed.
ONE word: Lack of communication
Heavens . . . when news of the Holocaust finally reached Vatican
City, apparently sometime around 1965, the Second Vatican Council
concluded (after some debate) that Jews were no more responsible
than Christians, (and all other sinful human beings) for the death
of Christ. "Peace in Nostra Aetate!," to paraphrase Neville
Chamberlain.
Strange as it may seem, it's now clear that the news had not yet
reached Hanvover County . . . or their distinguished representative
was somehow confused by the eschatological implications of the
Deity's abandonment of his better third to the tender mercies of the
Romans.
I'd suggest posting a memo in one of the local libraries . . .
but . . . if a tree falls . . . .
Sadly . . . we all have our politicians to bear.
