The Goochland County's early records are in much better shape than Hanover
and some neighbors.

And a very fine study based in large measure on these records is Maureen K.
Conklin, "Power in the Piedmont: Litigation and Political Culture in
Eighteenth-Century Central Virginia," (PhD. Diss., University of
Wisconsin-Madison, 1998).
