Senior Archivist, Architectural Records
(Library Specialist II)

Hiring Range:  $31,000 - $34,000 

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Senior Archivist for Architectural Records.  The successful candidate will analyze, arrange, and describe complex series of drawings, plans, and plats found in the private, business, circuit court, and state agency records of Virginia.  Duties include identifying the content, arrangement, research potential, extent and date range of these collections; conducting research; indexing and making information accessible; preparing finding aids and MARC catalogue records; contacting donors of architectural materials; and evaluating the physical condition of records to determine the extent of deterioration and need for treatment.

Qualifications include a Master's degree from an accredited institution in U.S. history, Architectural history, Archival Studies, Library Science, or a related field and formal training in archives administration preferred.  Also, considerable knowledge of archival theory and practice, archival automation and online cataloguing using the MARC format, and knowledge of Virginia or US history and standard archival conservation guidelines; demonstrated research skills; ability to analyze, arrange and describe collections accurately; working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and work effectively with donors; and to work in a  team environment.  Experience with processing architectural plans and drawings and knowledge of Virginia/Richmond architecture are highly preferred.  The successful candidate must pass a security background check.
