In 1976, John Dorman's "Virginia Genealogist" published land escheat records
for the years 1665-1676. The Introduction says: "This volume was originally
a part of the records of the Secretary of the Colony. It came into the
possession of the Library of Congress with the Thomas Jefferson manuscripts."
Are there other extant land early escheat records?
They add a welcomed dimension to research in Virginia's "burned" counties
where we have few or no county court house records.
