Bland Whitley writes: "it seems folly to reduce our study of the past to a
search for appropriate models" -- quite so, but it's not the members of this
list who are trying to do that: it's George Allen (the starting point for
all this).  Apparently it was not enough for him to say he espouses
"common-sense conservative principles"; they had to be _Jeffersonian_
principles.  We're just trying to figure out what the heck he might mean by
that.  He didn't elaborate.
