Land and Personal Property Tax records for King William County, Virginia from 1782 to 1900 are now available in .pdf format for the cost of media and shipping. These records were copied by me from microfilm at the Library of Virginia. Accordingly, these images are subject to the usual conditions -  no commercial use, proper credit and citations if referred to in written works, and no WWW usage. For further information about usage contact the Library. King William's Personal Property tax records from 1901 to 1920 should be available soon. To my knowledge this is the first long term, comprehensive set of Virginia county tax records available in this easy-to-use format.

Please note these images are not copies of the set of tax records available from the good folks at Binns Genealogy which end at 1832 (PP) and 1819 (Land). For a set of these high quality scans you are encouraged to contact them.

This collection contains 10,953 files and take up about 8.57 GB of disk space.  Less one page, this set seems complete. For those of you who have used county tax records for historical analysis or family research the value of such a collection is obvious. This is especially true for "burned" counties like King William. For those not familiar with the information contained in these records, a good introduction would be two related pamphlets, Research Notes Number 1 and Number 3, both available from the Library of Virginia.
