Students of Virginia history will be saddened to learn of the death last
Thursday of Ronal L. Heinemann, emeritus professor of history at
Hampden-Sydney College, where he taught for his entire career.

Ron's principal publications include *Depression and New Deal in Virginia:
The Enduring Dominion* (Charlottesville, 1983), *Harry Byrd of
Virginia* (Charlottesville,
1996), and with Anthony Parent, John Kolp, and William Shade, *Old
Dominion, New Commonwealth, Virginia 1607-2007* (Charlottesville, 2007).

Ron was a good friend for forty-five years and a good historian, as well.
