Steve,
It sounds like a fine idea to make Fort Monroe a place where one can learn
more about those who self-emancipated and celebrate their heroics. Perhaps
the condos on the site could be replica's of slave cabins to give residents
a sense of what it was like to live in such conditions. Perhaps, more
realistically, the barracks that soldiers live in could become hotel rooms,
with just as many people crowded into one room as were crowded into the
barracks. Let the place be a place to live history.
