Subject: [VA-HIST] Presentation - The City of Two Doors: Norfolk's Role in the Domestic Slave Trade - 2/18 at 11am

Good Afternoon everyone,

On February 18th (Saturday) at 11am, I will be presenting on Norfolk's role in the domestic slave trade at Mary D Pretlow Library in Norfolk, Virginia.

You will learn that Norfolk was the primary port of departure for slave traders who used ships to send their slaves to Deep South's ports.  Norfolk and its citizens played significant roles in major events of early 1800s US History including successful slave uprising abroad the Creole and founding of Liberia.  Norfolk also has connections with historically significant books: Harriett Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and Solomon Northrop's Twelve Years a Slave.

I will also give a brief update on the collaborative research project, Sold Down River, between Norfolk Public Library, Norfolk State University, and Roadstead Montessori High School.  https://www.solddownriver.com/

The presentation is free, and you will need to register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-city-of-two-doors-tickets-514491888087
