How does one determine the "wealthiest" citizens of a town or city in
Virginia in 1900?
I have seen research that attempts to rank people by using federal census
population schedules. The 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses give the total
value of an individual's real and personal estate, but no census after 1870
contains that information.
Is there something similar in scope and reliability for 1900? Maybe tax
records?
Many thanks,
Ted
