Not really a ship design, but in some accounts "man of war" denoted a
type of ship. As later you had, in the British Navy, 1st rate, 2D
rate, 3d rate ships. which denoted how large the ship was and of what
type (ship, sloop, or brig, # of guns, # of gun decks, etc.).
