Thank you for the suggestion, Mr Maass. As it happens I happened across an
early release of an "uncorrected proof" of "Breaking the Backcountry" some
time ago and it's sitting on my bookshelf. It doesn't mention the incident
and even if it did I would be skeptical. While I thoroughly enjoyed Mr
Ward's book and agree with his contention that the French and Indian War
does represent a significant break from the earlier patterns of colonial
life I'm afraid some of the details seem to be sensationalized.
