Call for papers:
2003 Underground Railroad Teaching Summit
June 9-11, 2003
This is the second annual Underground Railroad Teaching Summit (URTS)
sponsored jointly by Northern Kentucky University's Institute for Freedom
Studies (IFS) and the (NURFC). This interdisciplinary conference provides a
forum for dialogue among educators, scholars, students, and community
members engaged in the study of the Underground Railroad (UGRR). Papers are
invited that identify and call attention to the broad scope of the
Underground Railroad movement and its impact and present-day legacy in
America and the world. Appropriate papers might address--but are not limited
to--slavery, abolitionism, the Native-American involvement, UGRR research,
the UGRR as an international movement, and UGRR curricular development. That
is, we are looking for papers that will help to lay out the boundary and
define the content of UGRR studies.
One-page abstracts or completed papers should be submitted by March 31,
2003. Papers may be considered for publication in IFS' electronic journal,
The Freedom Chronicle. Submissions may be submitted by e-mail to
