Organizational Skills for Genealogists
Tuesday, April 27, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Presented by Diane Nesmeyer.
How Organized Are You?
Local genealogist Diane Nesmeyer will share her expertise for developing
an organized approach to genealogical research, and effective methods to
deal with the volume of paper that research produces, at the April 27th
Genealogy Resources Users Group program beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The meetings, held the fourth Tuesdays of most months, feature
demonstrations of genealogy resources including genealogy software,
electronic resources and Internet sites and are open to all genealogy
enthusiasts, regardless of their experience level.
Genealogists collect vast amounts of paper as they locate and prove
connections to their ancestry. Organizing the accumulated paper and
maintaining its order will save time and money, and who does not want to
save time and money? This presentation will discuss the considerations
that should be addressed before creating a filing system, questions that
should be asked as the system is developed and implemented, and
evaluation of the system after implementation and utilization.
The Genealogy Resources Users Group is sponsored by RELIC with support
from The Friends of Central and Bull Run Regional Libraries.

There's still time to join our fourth annual research outing!
Research Trip to the National Archives
Friday, May 14, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Join the staff of RELIC for a day at the National Archives in
Washington, D.C.
In previous years RELIC has sponsored well-attended bus trips to the DAR
Library, Library of Congress, and Library of Virginia. This year we will
be traveling to the National Archives (NARA) on Pennsylvania Avenue in
Washington, DC. The Archives has been extensively remodeled in the past
year and its research facilities are now on the ground floor. Research
materials available include census schedules, passenger lists, early
military and pension records, Civil War photographs, and a host of other
Federal records.
We will leave Bull Run Library promptly at 8:00 a.m., May 14, on a
luxury 43-seat bus. Participants will be offered an orientation session
provided by an NARA staff genealogy specialist. NARA staff will be on
duty to help you locate specialized research materials. You may dine at
the Archives snack bar, a nearby eatery, or bring your own lunch. The
bus is scheduled to leave the Archives at 3:45 p.m., to return to Bull
Run by 5 p.m.
The fee is $20 prepaid ($25 after May 7) delivered or mailed to RELIC.
Please make your reservation as soon as possible to be assured a seat.
RELIC has books describing the holdings of the National Archives in
detail. Questions? Call us at 703-792-4540.
