June 10, 1963, is known as Bloody Monday in Danville, Virginia, but the events of that day are rooted in a long violent history. Today's post from The UncommonWealth looks back at that history as context for that fateful day in June 1963.
On June 6th the Library of Virginia, in partnership with Virginia Humanities, will host a screening of "The Movement," a documentary on the Civil Rights struggle in Danville, and a panel discussion with several of the protesters. Details and registration for the event are linked in the blog post.
