Mark your calendars for Sunday,September 30 for the Third Annual Eppington
Colonial Heritage Day at historic Eppington (1770) in Chesterfield County.
It is a free and open to the public.  Eppington (Virginia Landmark and
National Register of Historic Places) was built by Thomas Jefferson's
brother in law Francis Eppes VI.  Their mutual grandson, Francis Wayles
Eppes eventually inherited Jefferson's Poplar Forest.  Join us for tours of
this high style plantation house with Paladian influences and Georgian
details - it was sketched in 1796 by Benjamin Henry LaTrobe. Enjoy the
food, music, fun and activities.  Recent archaeology has unearthed the
foundation of the school/kitchen where perhaps Jefferson's children took
lessons along with their Eppes cousins. Eppington, built in stages over the
course of about 20 years, is being interpreted as the largest artifact on
display, so you will see original 18th and 19th century fabric. It is a
fascinating structure that shows the clear evolution from our British roots
to the classically inspired first American style of architecture. The event
runs from 1 until 5 pm, and the last entertainment (4 pm) will be a
delightful version of Aesop's Fables by the VCU Childrens Theatre.  The
children write their lines, make their own scenery and costumes, and
