Announcing the fourteenth Annual Brown Teacher Institute
July & August 2023 | Free
Join Library of Virginia staff members and guest speakers in this year's two-day Teacher Institute. The fourteenth annual Brown Teacher Institute will focus on research and projects on local stories and histories that have typically been hidden or neglected from mainstream narratives. Institute participants will not only learn about the rich history of Virginia, but also enrich their understanding of how local stories fit into our national history. The Institute will offer tools, resources, and content to aid educators in teaching these local stories and hidden histories in the classroom. Teachers will explore how to use primary sources to enhance student learning and discover new digital resources.
This year's institute is in-person.
The Library of Virginia is hosting a teacher institute in each of the eight superintendent's regions<https://www.doe.virginia.gov/about-vdoe/virginia-school-directories/virginia-public-school-division-staff-listing-by-region>. The Library will give preference to attendees from regions two, three, five, and seven.
