John, et al:
I am surprised that none of the responders have thought of David Rawson's excellent work on Virginia's printers - long on display at the Virginia Forum, and now available on-line at the fabulous web site of the American Antiquarian Society!
Rawson has been researching & documenting VA printers for coming onto 20 years.
I would be very surprised if you couldn't find answers in his data base.

Subject: [VA-HIST] Newspaper Political Affiliation
Friends:
I am interested in the political affiliation of early newspapers, in particular the Centinel of Liberty published in Georgetown from about 1796 to 1800. Was it primarily associated with Federalists or Democratic-Republicans?
Short of reading all the available back editions, I am curious as to whether there is a secondary source publishing a list of newspapers w/ their general affiliation.
Thanks,
John Ragosta
