Excellent archives of Baptist history in VA & somewhat throughout the
south. If you're able to visit, staff/volunteers are most helpful and
would be interested in the project.
Other denominations probably have a similar repository.
Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians weren't all that different in the
way they operated in the 18th & 19th centuries. In most geographical
areas, a preacher rode a circuit throughout a county or even broader
area, preaching at a different church each Sunday of the month.
Denominations frequently shared the church over the month and sometimes
on the same day. Some churches were called Union churches with a rather
formal agreement amongst the associated denominations.
Even for the Anglican/Episcopalians, being a minister was not one's day
job. He still had to tend to his farm to support his family. Anglican
ministers were usually furnished land - GLEBE - but that may not have
been true for other denominations.
