Author and acclaimed documentary filmmaker Peter Firstbrook will speak in
Jamestown Settlement’s Robins Foundation Theater at 3 p.m., Tuesday,
October 14, on the exploits and accomplishments of Captain John Smith, the
subject of his new book, “A Man Most Driven.” Smith had an instrumental
role in the survival of the early 17th-century English colony at Jamestown
and published the first accurate map of the Chesapeake Bay region in 1612.
The lecture will be preceded and followed by book-signings and is free with
admission to Jamestown Settlement.
Firstbrook also is author of “The Voyage of Matthew,” about the explorer
John Cabot, “Lost on Everest,” about George Mallory, and “The Obamas: The
Untold Story of an African Family.” For 25 years he was a BBC television
producer, director and executive producer specializing in historical
documentaries. He has won more than 30 international awards including,
twice, the Royal Television Society award for best documentary.
