Greetings - I thought this would be a good time to provide a review of
several matters relating to the VA-HIST listserv. Please contact me
privately if you have any questions or comments:
1. VA-HIST is for the discussion of Virginia history and is managed by the
Library of Virginia.
The Home Page for VA-HIST is here:
http://www.lva.lib.va.us/pubserv/lists/vahist.htm
The archives of all previous discussions since 1994 can be found here:
http://www.lva.lib.va.us/pubserv/lists/histarch.htm
2. If you wish to participate in our listserv for the discussion of
Virginia genealogy, please connect to the VA-ROOTS Home Page for
instructions and access to the archives of previous postings:
http://www.lva.lib.va.us/pubserv/lists/varoots.htm
3. If you post a message to VA-HIST, your message will be delivered to more
than 500 individuals.
If you REPLY to a message you see on VA-HIST, your reply will also go out to
more than 500 individuals.
4. Many subscribers receive the VA-HIST postings in "digest" format (one
message per day containing all of the postings that were made during the
previous 24 hours)
Now, that said:
a. When you would like to reply to a posting, please consider carefully
whether or not your reply should be sent out to the entire list of
subscribers. If it should not, please send your reply only to the person
who sent the original message.
b. If you reply to a message on the list, please use your "cut and paste"
function in your email program to remove all text of the message that should
not be re-sent. Please leave only the text that is necessary to lend
context to your reply.
Subscribers who receive the postings in digest format must scroll through
each line of text in order to find the relevant information.
c. Please do not post "me too" or "I agree" messages to the entire list.
Those should be sent privately to the original poster.
d. Please do not attack or insult the statements or opinions of other
subscribers.
e. Please keep your postings "on topic." VA-HIST is not a forum for the
general discussion of history, culture or politics. Topics should be
specifically related to Virginia history. If you have a specific question
about a particular topic, please contact me privately.
f. VA-HIST has been in existence since 1994. During the past 7 years, many
topics have been discussed at length. Please consult the archives.
Please do let me know if you have any questions or need assistance with your
subscription (send them to me privately - please do not reply to this
message on the list)
Thank you!
Elizabeth
