Pippa,

Thomas William Ozlin (12 July 1884-15 July 1944) was an attorney and served
in the House of Delegates from Lunenburg County from 1918 to 1930. In 1926
Governor Harry Flood Byrd engineered Ozlin's election as Speaker of the
House in order to guarantee a smooth progress of his legislative program
through the assembly. Ozlin retired as Speaker and from the assembly in
1930.

In 1933 Ozlin became a judge of the State Corporation Commission and
remained in that office until his death. A loyal supporter of Harry Byrd and
a good legislative tactician, he served Byrd's organization well and
faithfully and by the end of the 1930s believed that he had earned the
organization's support for governor, but Byrd supported Colgate Whitehead
Darden for the 1941 nomination. Deeply embittered, Ozlin joined the
opposition, rightly feeling that he had been used and cast aside when no
longer useful.

Subject: Rep. Ozlin?

Can anyone tell me anything about Rep. Ozlin who served in the General
Assembly in the early 1920s? Was this Thomas W. Ozlin? And what district
did he represent? Any other interesting info is always welcome.

Thanks
Pippa Holloway
