My point is that after 200 years and being born and bred as slaves, not a
lot changed for them when slavery ended. I know that many of the older
people in my family only spoke of what happened in the south in hushed
whispers. This was in the 1950's, so I can imagine how the actual slaves
felt about revealing the horrors then endured.
