I have been asked to post this announcement that may be of interest.

Professor Joseph C. Miller, former president of the American Historical
Association, the T. Cary John Jr. Professor of History at the University of
Virginia, and distinguished historian of Africa and of the international
slave trade, will deliver the 2002 James Pinckney Harrison Lectures in
History at the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The three lectures are:

"The Problem of Slavery as History: A Global Approach," scheduled for 4:30
P.M., 14 March 2002, in Millington Hall 150.

"History and Slavery in Africa," scheduled for 4:30 P.M., 21 March 2002, in
Millington Hall 150.

"Slavery in the Americas in Global Perspective," scheduled for 4:30 P.M., 28
March 2002, in Trinkle Hall, Campus Center, on Jamestown Road.
