Va-Hist subscribers will no doubt be saddened to learn of the death on
Saturday of Dr. Joseph C. Robert, former president of Hampden-Sydney
College, professor of history at the University of Richmond, and author
(among other things) of two books of enduring importance to Virginian and
Southern history: "The Tobacco Kingdom" (1941), and "The Road from
Monticello: A Study of the Virginia Slavery Debate of 1832" (1938).

For the obituary of Dr. Robert in Sunday's Richmond Times-Dispatch, see
