Michael, do you plan to contact someone at Duke? I am sure you can do it
ourself -- maybe even online to the Duke Library -- but I am from North
arolina, working in the Governor's DC office. NC also has a very good archives
nd family history library.

i Joe--sorry I won't be in Alexandria this trip. I talked to individuals at the
etersburg Public Library by phone including a long serving volunteer named
ancy who thought these may have ended up at Duke. Beyond that no one seems to
now of them--Mick

I am (nearly) a life long amateur genealogist. Because several of ancestral
ines began their lives by immigrating into Virginia and some sojourned 1+
enerations in Prince George County/Petersburg proper the "missing" early
ewspapers/microfilms would be of great interest to me. Your account is the
irst I have heard.
Because of health issues (primarily back problems), I have not done any
esearch in Prince George/Petersburg in several years, but I would am very
nterested in trying to find and review such newspapers.
Can you provide more detail about whom you have you contacted in your attempt
o locate the papers or microfilms? I can certainly help make inquiries.
If you are in the Alexandria area during your sojourn in Virginia this week,
erhaps we could meet to share stories about Prince George/Petersburg. WILLIAM
AYES, who arrived there ca. 1640 acquired 125A just north of the current city
imits on State Road 144 where it crosses the Appomattox River. In addition,
his land is also easily identified because beginning about 10 years ago it is
eing subdivided and developed commercially for the first time (look for a
otorcycle business).
