I remember meeting a German graduate student in the National Archives
several years ago who was researching German units in the Confederacy.
According to her there were no German regiments in the war. There were
however three German-speaking companies. I remember that there was one
company from Charleston and one from New Orleans. The third I am unable to
remember.
