Two items:
Regarding the SOL thread, I am compelled to plead ignorance. I've
skimmed back through the multitude of postings and cannot find an
explanation: what is an SOL. My only encounter with SOL in the past was a
vulgar expression where L stood for "luck".
Regarding the recent thread on lynching, I think the List would be
interested to read a fascinating article that appeared today in The State
newspaper in Columbia, SC about two men who today are both coaches in a
small town - the great-grandson of the victim of a 1916 lynching and the
great-grandson of one of the mob leaders:
“Our ancestors went through so much to give us the opportunities
that we have today,” says Darrell, Abbeville’s boys track coach. “We know
our history, and we can gain strength from our history. But we also have to
use our history as a way of saying that we’re going to improve.”
