If anyone is interested in other city / state comparisons on this issue,
look into ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, where laws, challenges, and court
cases at all levels went on for roughly half of the 20th century. I do
not have specifics at hand, but that city in the center of the country
has long grappled with its South/North, East/West identity confusion
and is still considered one of the most racially segregated cities in
the nation.
