In reading 18th century wills I came across two terms I do not understand.
I hope someone on the list can enlighten me:
In the Executor's account there are "Crying charges" or charges for "Crier"
Is that when they paid people to cry at the funeral?
Also is a "base born" child a child born out of wedlock? Is it a term
restricted to female babies?
Thanks for your assistance.
