"Has anyone studied the spread of the Quaker and Methodist faiths in
early Virginia and the effects it had on the freeing of slaves?"

Anthony A. Iacarino's 1999 UCLA doctoral dissertation, "Virginia and the
National Contest over Slavery in the Early Republic, 1780-1833,"
discusses this subject and if we're lucky will be a book before long.
