BUT, it took bayonets and a 4 year war, and it was 'proven' illegal only
by defeat, not from the beginning.  Proven is the wrong word, just because
the North won, doesn't mean the South was wrong in the beginning.  By
force, and only by force, was it 'proven' but then, force doesn't prove
anything except that the 'bully' can have his way.
