Not to mention the starling. About a hundred of them were evidently -- I
am unable to verify with absolute reliability -- released into the
Shakespeare Garden of Central Park, New York City, by one Eugene
Schieffelin in 1890. I am told some one third of the world's starlings
currently reside in north America.

The search term you want, in consulting library resources or the Web, is
"invasive species". Two good sites to start with if you cannot get to a
library are:

http://www.invasivespecies.gov/

        especially:

        http://www.invasivespecies.gov/geog/state/va.shtml

http://www.issg.org/

There is a list of invasive plant species in Virginia at:

http://www.dcr.state.va.us/dnh/pdflist.htm

Google provides many more hits, these are just a few from the top. I
suspect the USDA would also be a good resource.
