As we enter into the 250th commemoration of the American Revolution, take a look back at how the Bicentennial was celebrated in 1976 with historian Brent Tarter. He was a co-editor of the seven-volume Revolutionary Virginia, The Road to Independence: A Documentary Record, which compiled, edited, and published the records of the conventions and committees that between 1774 and 1776 transformed Virginia from a colony to a state. As part of the Virginia Independence Bicentennial Commission, Tarter and his fellow editors conducted their work out of the then Virginia State Library.
